A full day classroom and field based training session will be offered in three locations across Minnesota. Participants in this training session will become familiar with planning considerations in regard to designing a seeding, site conditions, seed and seeding for successful establishment of grass and forb plantings. Attendees will also participate in a no till drill demonstration for seeding native grasses and forbs with good seed to soil contact but also shallow enough for successful germination. The demonstration will include a hands on view of the different boxes on a no till drill for different size seeds, mechanisms that help the seed to flow smoothly, calibration methods, depth regulators on different models of drill, and actual seeding in differently prepped seedbeds. The importance of weed control will be discussed. The concepts of stand evaluation and maintenance activities will also be covered with field examples.
