The Habitat at Home program supports of thousands of DIY projects is also an emphasis for the program. BWSR and Blue Thumb are launching a new initiative this summer and fall through the Lawns to Legumes program. This year we are launching a free educational program residents can sign up for called Lawns to Legumes: Habitat at Home.
Funding is provided by the Environment and Natural Resources Trust Fund (ENRTF) and the state General Fund. The Minnesota Board of Water and Soil Resources (BWSR) administers the Lawns to Legumes program, and Blue Thumb — Planting for Clean Water and Metro Blooms coordinates the Lawns to Legumes Individual Support grants.
Minnesota residents can apply during active signup periods to be reimbursed for up to $400 in costs associated with establishing pollinator habitat in their yards.
Grant recipients are expected to map their completed projectsin order to apply for reimbursement. If you did not receive an individual support grant, you can still map your project to help provide a clearer picture of where pollinator habitat can be found around the state.
Workshops, free planting guides and online resources are available to anyone who wishes to pursue a DIY project.
