Training Description:
Beneficial insects like dung beetles are key ecological management tools for healthy rangeland and pasture. However, certain pest and parasite management practices can harm beneficial insect populations, impairing the ecosystem services they provide.
Julie Michaelson, pollinator conservation specialist from the Xerces Society and NRCS partner biologist, discusses dung-beetle friendly pasture management practices that help suppress pest and parasite populations, promote healthy forage, and increase soil health. This session also reviews the main pests and parasites in livestock systems and an integrated approach to pest management that reduces the development of insecticide resistant pest populations and non target harm to beneficial insects like dung beetles.
