Training Description:
This hands on Soil Testing Clinic is designed to build confidence and competency in selecting, collecting, and interpreting soil samples for conservation planning and nutrient management. Participants will review the fundamentals of soil testing within the context of NRCS Nutrient Management (CPS 590) and gain a practical understanding of the requirements for CEMA 216 (Soil Health Testing) and CEMA 217 (Soil and Source Testing for Nutrient Management), including who qualifies as a Qualified Individual (QI), QI responsibilities, documentation requirements, and common implementation scenarios. The clinic will explore why soil testing is important, how to determine the most appropriate test for different management objectives, and how regional soil test trends can inform conservation planning. Classroom instruction will be reinforced through a field-based session where participants will evaluate sampling locations, compare soil probes and equipment, practice multiple sampling strategies, and collect representative soil samples using accepted protocols.
