Mississippi River Basin Initiative

With assistance from NRCS, Chisago County farmers are helping to improve water quality from the St. Croix River to the Gulf of Mexico. Dedicated Mississippi River Basin Initiative funds targeting the Green Lake watershed provided added incentives.

Cottonwood County easement expands habitat, water storage

Three Cottonwood County landowners collaborated to protect nearly 300 acres in Mountain Lake Township. Work included restoring a wetland, establishing native vegetation and installing two rock-armored spillways to provide temporary water storage.

Revealing soil science at the State Fair

An exhibit being planned for this year's Minnesota State Fair invites attendees to meet Minnesota's soils and discover a new world beneath their feet.

2022 BWSR legislative wrap-up

Legislation passed this year emphasized funding for BWSR-administered conservation easements, wetland protection and watershed and forestland restoration.
