Webinar 7: How to Talk About Wetlands with Landowners

This is the seventh webinar, delivered in 3 segments, in NAWM and NRCS’s jointly-developed nine-part wetland training webinar series.

  • Part 7.0: Introduction: Brenda Zollitsch, Policy Analyst, Association of State Wetland Managers Time: 5:30
  • Part 7.1: Trainer: Brittany Haywood, Delaware Department of Natural Resources Time: 42:53
  • Part 7.2: Trainer: Andy Robertson, Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota Time: 42:33

Webinar 6: Identifying Resource Concerns and Determining Landowner Objectives

This is the sixth webinar, delivered in 3 segments, in NAWM and NRCS’s jointly-developed nine-part wetland training webinar series.

  • Part 6.0: Introduction: Brenda Zollitsch, Policy Analyst, Association of State Wetland Managers Time: 5:45
  • Part 6.1: Trainer: Ted LaGrange, Nebraska Game and

Introduction to Hydrology

This video covers the science of hydrology, specifically precipitation, runoff, curve numbers, and peak discharge as covered in the NRCS hydrology modules 101-106 (pdfs online). The video is generally used as a prerequisite to the TTCP basic hydrology course (in-person or virtual).

Webinar 5: Dealing with Reality: How to Work with Wetlands in Altered Landscapes

This is the fifth webinar, delivered in 5 segments, in NAWM and NRCS’s jointly-developed nine-part wetland training webinar series. The webinar began with a presentation on types of actions taken that have altered, degraded or destroyed wetlands over time. This was followed by a discussion on how hydrology, source water, water budgets and the soil/water interfaces vary by the location and wetland type (Hydrogeomorphic (HGM) class) and how adjustments to these lead to changes in wetlands. NRCS definitions of actions that can be taken to improve wetlands will be shared.

Webinar 4: Wetland Ecology for Planners: Examples of Variation Across the United States

This is the fourth webinar, delivered in 4 segments, in NAWM and NRCS’s jointly-developed nine-part wetland training webinar series. The webinar will begin with a presentation on the variability in wetlands across the country, including how specific wetland functions and services vary by wetland type. The webinar will review these functions and services, which include wildlife habitat, flood attenuation, water quality improvement, recreational opportunities and more.

How to use Haney Tests

The Haney test tries to assess biological activity in your soil. The results include many different metrics representing microbial activity and food sources. Dr. Anna Cates, state soil health specialist, guides you through how the various measurements are done and how to interpret your results.  Liz Stahl, Extension Educator in Crops,  discusses U of MN research comparing results of the Haney Test to standard soil testing procedures, and the implications if one were to use the Haney test in determining fertilizer needs.
