Spotted jewelweed, a native annual, thrives in wetlands, floodplains, streambanks and ditches. Its jewel-like flowers bloom July through September on stems up to 5 feet tall. Mature seed capsules of this plant burst explosively when touched, which explains another common name: touch-me-not.
