The BWSR Academy is a three-day, cost effective, annual training event for conservation-based local government staff. The event is centered around 90-minute interactive training sessions with opportunities for hands-on learning by attendees. This emphasis on hands on training differentiates the BWSR Academy from conferences, conventions or symposiums which are primarily one-way delivery of information or research. The Academy sessions deliver content that is directly applicable to LGU work “back home.”
Academy Goal
The goal of the BWSR Academy is to provide high quality training for local government staff that maintains and improves the delivery of conservation work and meets the shared expectations of BWSR and local resource management boards.
Our priority is to offer training sessions that improve the technical skills and administrative expertise useful in implementing BWSR-sponsored programs or activities directly related to BWSR programs. The Academy also offers sessions dedicated to value-added skills. These sessions focus on building conservation skills but are not targeted to specific program implementation needs.
Guiding Principles:
- To provide a systematic training framework allowing LGU staff to improve their performance in delivering local conservation
- To be practical for LGU use
- To be cost-effective for LGUs to attend
- To increase governmental efficiency in delivering BWSR programs
- To use hands-on learning and case studies, when appropriate, to illustrate content
